Advantages of the Omaha System

  • The Omaha System is a comprehensive taxonomy designed to organize and measure clinical data through standardized documentation of client care.
  • It provides a structure to document client needs and strengths, relate clinician interventions, and measure client outcomes in a simple yet comprehensive manner. It is recognized by the American Nurses Association.
  • It has been successfully used in a variety of settings, including public health departments, home care agencies, nurse managed centers, case management programs, and schools of nursing.
  • It is easy to use, without compromising the ability to accurately describe practitioners' interventions.
  • It permits comparisons of outcomes of care among agencies that is not possible with other systems.

For More Information

Please visit the official Omaha System web site or check out the CHAMP Software Omaha System Friends website. Although the name is similar, this is completely separate from the Omaha System website.

The CHAMP developed site includes a section for pathway sharing, a user's forum, a news section and a Q&A section for you to ask questions of Karen Martin and others experts in the Omaha System. The website is very new so be sure you leave your comments and suggestions in the Discussion area and post any pathways you would like to share with others.
