When Disaster Strikes
From
a recent Dilbert© strip: "Our disaster recovery plan goes something
like this... HELP! HELP! Someday we hope to have a budget."
We hope that's not true for your agency! Hopefully you'll never
encounter a "disaster", but if you do, are you certain your valuable
data can be recovered?
With CHAMP HIPAA Version 2, your data is now securely stored
in SQL Server. Part of that security means that SQL Server locks
your database files so that no other program can access them.
This means your database files can NOT be copied by standard
backup software. Your IT staff needs to create a maintenance
plan for SQL Server to make a backup file, which can then be
copied to tape. If you're using the MSDE, use CHAMP's ServerTools
to create the backup file.
What needs to be backed up? For starters, the champ_v2 database.
For easier recovery, back up the master, distribution, msdb,
tempdb, and model databases. If you only backup the champ_v2
database, if you restore you'll need to reset replication using
CHAMP's ServerTools.
Lastly, schedule a "practice" restore with your IT staff to
ensure you'll have the data when you need it. Following these
simple steps will reduce panic if a "disaster" ever occurs.

Secure Support Website Coming Soon
|
| |
CHAMP
is adding another tool to its support arsenal: a secure
website for customers only. You'll be able to download
documents, view known issues and work- arounds, and access
tech tips.
The secure site will be the first place for you to look
if you encounter a problem or possible bug in CHAMP. Thirty
seconds spent on the website could save you 10 minutes
of documenting the problem and contacting CHAMP. It will
also be easier to distribute new information, such as HIPAA
billing procedures or other regulatory changes, through
the secure site.

News: Scheduler Update
|
| |
As
mentioned in January, you will soon see a new scheduling
module with a dual purpose: for public health agencies
to schedule clinic visits, and for home care agencies to
schedule aides.
In-house testing on the Scheduler is underway, with a
release to beta testers planned for May. New features include
conflict notification, matching patient and caregiver,
verify and export records to the Daily table for billing,
and schedule recurring appointments.
Look for details on release dates and pricing in our next
newsletter this summer.

Attention Transfer Users: Complex Update
|
| |
As
many of you know, in CHAMP HIPAA Version 2 we completely
re-vamped the Transfer feature using a built-in function
of SQL Server called replication. A few changes in initial
settings have proven to greatly increase the reliability
and usability of Transfer.
CHAMP has put together these changes in a "complex update".
We designate updates as "complex" when they change database
table structures or replication settings. To apply this
update, all users must be out of CHAMP and all charts must
be checked in.
If you use Transfer (or would like to!) and haven't applied
the "complex update", please contact us to schedule a time
to do so.

Tech Tip: Missing ICD Codes on Bills
|
| |
Do
you have invoices showing only the primary diagnosis, while
there are other diagnoses on the CMS-485? If so, check
to make sure these things are completed:
- 485 has correct Provider ID.
- 485 has the correct date ranges.
- 485 has a print date.
- 485 is signed by Physician.
