eCHAMP Express Vol. 6
March 2005

Some days life would be easier if the Internet had never been invented! But criminal justice experts say cyber crime is growing faster than conventional crime, so we all are more concerned with security than ever.

Are you ready for HIPAA Security? The Winter 2005 US Healthcare Industry HIPAA Survey* results show only 18% of providers are in compliance with HIPAA Security regulations. If you're in the other 82%, we've provided some resources to assist you in the article to the right.

In this issue
  • POC Becomes PDA
  • Inexpensive Internet-based Training
  • Timely Import from Lewis Prompt
  • Reminder: Omaha System Conference in MN

  • POC Becomes PDA

Beta-testing of CHAMP's newest product, TouchPoint PDA, will be underway by early April. Running on a 6oz Pocket PC, TouchPoint simplifies charting with flowsheet-like screens. Pathways generate interventions that nurses mark as complete with one click.

We're including over 50 pathways (reviewed by several of our users) that you can customize to match your agency's standard practices. And underneath the simplified screens is the Omaha System, providing outcomes measurement and quantifiable data.

TouchPoint PDA includes basic client info, meds, daily activity records, visits, vitals, assessments, and interventions. It synchronizes data with the server when in the office.

For more info, please email us or browse our TouchPoint PDA info.

    Inexpensive Internet-based Training

More CHAMP customers are taking advantage of Internet training using WebEx remote access. You can train new staff or retrain current staff at a reasonable cost with no travel. A group can be trained using an Internet connection on one PC that attendees can gather around and a good speaker phone.

We have several standard training sessions available lasting from 1 hour to 1.5 hours, covering topics such as:

    • OASIS Assessments
    • Medicare Billing: Creating a RAP or Final Claim
    • Comprehensive Assessment (Omaha System)
    • Dailies, Payments, Supplies/Charges
    • Custom Reports using Query
    • Transfer
Or we can customize content for your agency.

For more information and prices, please email champ2 or call 507-388-4141 and ask to speak to Bob.

    Timely Import from Lewis Prompt

CHAMP can now import Lewis Prompt data. For Lewis customers looking for an alternative to Patron, this may remove the last hurdle for you to upgrade to CHAMP instead. Import Physician and Patient files and resume business activities with little re-keying of data. Contact us for more info.

Reminder: Omaha System Conference in MN

The 2005 Omaha System International Conference: A Key to Practice, Documentation, and Information Management will be held April 21-23 in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. It is an exciting opportunity to increase your working knowledge about the Omaha System and network with others.

    HIPAA Security Starts in April

Help ready your agency with some of these resources:

    HCAR Security Bulletin
A weekly summary of security events is published free by Stony Hill Management. This company also produces GetHIP - Security, a home care HIPAA compliance tool.

Staff Training HIPAA Tip From HCAR Security Bulletin
The Security Rule identifies three areas where staff training and education may be needed: protection from malicious software, password management, and log-in monitoring. For a curriculum outline based on materials included in GetHIP-Security, please email info@hipaahomecare.com with "training outline" in the subject.

    Wireless Security
Several customers use wireless networks, which can be handy. Unfortunately they're more difficult to secure. CHAMP does not support wireless network setup and/or security. You assume full responsibility for CHAMP data transmitted via the wireless network. See this article as an aid to assist in your security efforts.

    Passwords in CHAMP
We are working on enhancing password functionality for our next update, Release Q. Each user will be able to change his/her own password, and we'll provide instructions on how to setup Form Privileges for this.
